Course Description


OIL212 - Freshwater Oil Spill Control Refresher - 24.00 Hours

Prerequisites

Either successful completion of the 40-hour Freshwater Oil Spill Control offered by the Center for Marine Training and Safety (or a similar type of course) or demonstrable "hands-on" experience from past spill events or training exercises.

Description

This 24-hour core course re-emphasizes hands-on capabilities for oil spills in rivers and small stream environments. It is designed for persons in industry, the regulatory community and the emergency response area who will be required to respond to an oil-spill incident.

The course provides students with interesting and challenging response scenarios beyond basic response skills. Classroom tim ewill account for approximately 6 hours of the training time; the remainder of the time will be "hands-on" field time with emphasis on booming strategy and tactics.

  • Decontamination, PPE and HAZWOPER Issues
  • Sorbents and Chemical Agents
  • NRDA and Shoreline Assessment Issues
    • "Hands-On" Topics:
    • Multiple boom deployment operations to include: Cascade booming operation, Vessel/Rig enclosure containment operation, Mobil booming operation
    • Skimmer and Crude Oil Exercise
    • Mobile Skimming Operations
    • Large Scale Simulated Release Exercise

      Class size: minimum 6 students

      Participation in this class will require a signed Risk Release on the first day of class.
