Public Safety & Security training is available in the following areas:

HISTORY

In operation since 1940, TEEX's police training program is the oldest continuing state-wide public safety and security extension training program in Texas. From the first class, the goals of police training have been to instill knowledge, judgment and compassion in each student.

A course entitled "Traffic Control for Police Officers" was offered in 1940 under the guidance of the Industrial Education Department of the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas. The Police Training Division was officially established under the Industrial Extension Service in 1942.

In June 1953 the first Texas Municipal Police School was conducted in the YMCA building on the A&M campus. The budding course was developed with the guidance and assistance of training directors representing major public safety and security agencies across the state. This first basic police course included 140 hours of classroom instruction.

Many Public Safety and Security Training courses are conducted at our training facilities located at the Texas A&M University Riverside Campus. Riverside Campus is located west of Bryan on Texas Highway 47, just off of Texas Highway 21.

Public Safety and Security instructors are specially selected for their experience and education in their training areas. In addition to our permanent staff, Public Safety and Security has highly qualified adjunct instructors around the state and nation to teach certain courses at their locations.
