Overview

TEEX offers a highly diversified group of public works training programs that serve and reach nearly all of the skill groups and departments commonly found in local, state and federal government. The programs are tailored specifically for the needs of industrial and private sector customers and cover a range of disciplines, from safety classes for the electric power employee to detailed engineering concepts for people who plan, design, construct and manage roadways. These programs serve a diverse worker group, from entry-level and mid-career, to supervisors and executives.

WorkersElectric Power
TEEX assists organizations in complying with state and federal electric power regulations, helping to reduce loss and injury. The Electric Power Program offers innovative training solutions ranging from apprentice training and pole climbing to power line construction and live line maintenance. A program in life-saving techniques and on-site safety and training programs are also offered.

Telecommunications
TEEX has been serving independent and cooperative telephone companies in Texas since 1961. Today, TEEX conducts hands-on training in the latest technologies in fiber optics and data circuit design, installation and maintenance. Training is also offered in outside plant engineering, cable splicing and aerial and buried cable construction among others.

Water and WastewaterWater Lab
TEEX provides comprehensive training for water and wastewater personnel. Training ranges from basic concepts through advanced applications, offering water and wastewater operators the skills necessary to obtain certifications in compliance with state and federal regulations. The On-Site Sewage Facilities program is offered in cooperation with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), and all approved courses are awarded credit hours toward TCEQ certification.

EUTransportation Engineering
TEEX offers several programs to make highway transportation safer and more efficient. Highway Safety Training addresses flagging, signs and pavement markings, work zones and traffic engineering. There are also programs for counties and cities looking to identify and correct potential roadway safety hazards. Continuing Engineering Development provides comprehensive training in engineering design and project development, and traffic control technology offers free technical training for traffic signal technicians.

Pupil and Public Transportation
TEEX strives to provide high quality, standardized training and resources to enhance knowledge and skills for safe and effective pupil and public transportation. The program is conducted in cooperation with the Texas Department of Transportation, Texas Association of Pupil Transportation and Texas Rural Transit Assistance Program.

Construction Technology and Safety
TEEX offers comprehensive, technical training for the Construction industry ranging from courses on basic heavy equipment operation to excavation safety training. Other Public Works training areas include building codes, public works inspection, and plumbing code and inspection surveying.

Environmental Compliance
The TEEX environmental compliance training programs focus on providing up-to-date training on topics such as RCRA hazardous waste management, HAZWOPER and emergency response, asbestos and lead abatement, indoor air quality issues, conducting environmental site assessments, and removing and installing underground storage tanks.

Homeland Security
In conjunction with the agency’s National Emergency Response and Rescue Training Center, TEEX brings public works employees together with emergency management personnel to learn to prevent, manage or react to a crisis arising from terrorism or a weapons of mass destruction incident. Through hands-on activities and realistic scenarios, personnel acquire knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to protect the public and infrastructure from the threat of a terrorism/WMD incident.

Frank M. Tejeda Center
With offices in five border regions, The Frank M. Tejeda Center for Environmental Excellence was established to reduce pollution and improve public health along the U.S.-Mexico border. The center strives to enhance the effectiveness, efficiency and sustainability of water/wastewater utility operations by offering assistance to operators and decision-makers to improve their technical, managerial and financial competencies.

Customized, On-Site Training,
Public Works training can be customized to fit the individual needs of the customer and taught on-site at the customer’s preferred location through state-of-the-art mobile training units that provide outstanding hands-on learning opportunities.
